Mental Health and Alzheimers

Hello AWG Team!
It has been a very busy few months and we appreciate your gracefulness in adapting to all the changing schedules and all that goes with it!

May is mental health awareness month.  As caregivers, we need to make sure we are taking care of our own mental health and be mindful of our clients and their family members that are taking on the role of caregiver as well.
We have some newer clients with Alzheimers.  “

Alzheimer’s family caregivers are at greater risk for depression than caregivers of people with other conditions”, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Here are some of my favorite tips to improve mental health.  Use for yourself, help your client, and/or encourage a family member.
*Practice Gratitude – Write or say 3 things you are grateful for each day.

*Spend time outside – Looking at trees or taking a walk.

*Prioritize Getting a good night’s sleep.*Breathe – Take 3 to 5 deep breaths slowly.

*Connect – Have at least one moment of genuine connection with someone.

The Mental Health America Association’s theme this year is Have More Good Days!
What does a good day look like for you?

Sometimes a good day is making it through each moment.

Or, spending time with people I love.

Or, having time to do what I wish.

Or, having enough energy to show up.

LeeAnne took her client Sally to the Bontanic Gardens and saw these beautiful butterflies! A great way to take care of her and Sally.

Have a great day and take good care of you!   We appreciate you!
